Truth hurts right? Not if you are selective in the truths you believe in. I am so tired of hearing anti-gay research done by anti-gay people. For example, when President Bush is asked about gay adoption and foster parents his answer is always "Studies have shown that the ideal is where a child is raised in a married family with a man and a woman." Like most of Bush's answers this one is only skin deep. Bush was probably citing the research of Dr. Paul Cameron, the leading member of a small rouge think tank that has a reputation for publishing studies like ''Gay Foster Parents More Apt to Molest." The Boston Globe sums up the situation well. <<More>>
"For example, Cameron's Family Research Institute, with an annual budget of less than $200,000, tries to counter the views of the 150,000-member American Psychological Association, which has an annual budget of $98 million. The tiny American College of pediatrician has a single employee, yet it has been quoted as a counterpoint to the 60,000-member American Academy of Pediatrics."
These small rouge think tanks can be compared to Fox News. They tell people what they want to here. This would be ok if the research by these by these small Think Tanks was actually valid. However, numerous psychological associations have dissociated themselves with Cameron and other similar institutions on the basis of weak methodology. American Sociological Association went so far as to say ''Cameron has consistently misinterpreted and misrepresented sociological research on sexuality, homosexuality, and lesbianism." Homophobia is trying to spread from the pulpit into the realm of science with vague studies based more on biblical beliefs than on actual science. The scientific community needs to ward of these right wing conservatives who are trying to distort true science.
